Extension
When one expands their sense of self
They join with the Divine
Infused throughout creation
And their sentiments entwine
This supernal identity’s
Logic of empathy
Is: “Do it to the least of these
You’ve done it unto me”

Why does it feel so good to give
To those loved and admired?
Do we feel that we rob ourselves
Or gain our heart’s desire?
When one expands their sense of self
Not trying to possess
Nor coerce the like sentiment
They give their very best
Yet gain more than they realize
They find the greater Self
A connection unbreakable
Beyond all earthly wealth
Paradise Found
How can we know what’s preferable
If we don’t try new things?
How can we know how selfless taste
If to selfish we cling?
For desires to shift one aught
We must find something better
To displace baser perspective
We break the finite fetter
Then into view we see that true
Happiness comes from giving
That self is more than ego
And that life is more than living
It may take time to shed the lie
Which suggests sacrifice
When giving feels like love of self
You’ve reached the paradise
Sure Thing
To gain singular focus
You must select one thing
That won’t prove a distraction
From life’s crucial well-being
It must serve social sentiments
And jive with rationale
It must sit well with conscience
And align the ethical
Can anything prove better then
Than altruistic love?
In life or death one cannot best
The odds of joy above
Intent
Intent classifies actions,
Emotions, thoughts, desires
Into spiritual genus
And the goodness that it sires
This truth of heart cannot impart
Contrary fruit or seed
The soul yields up its harvest strict
According to its breed
Though actions be the same
Between the hypocrite and saint
Devotions aren’t identical
For impure motives taint
Emotions born of passion
Aren’t the same as selfless love
For lust is clearly carnal
While the other from above
Even our thoughts bear different types
According to invention
One can’t concoct a lie in mind
That transforms true intention
Though objects of desire be the same
Among three people
Motives can differ vastly
Between virtue, null, and evil
We must consider what we do
As well as why we do it
We must examine what we want
And why we do pursue it
The genus of volition
Reveals honest aspirations
Corona of the soul is seen
Within these emanations
Forerunners
Little hands within my span
That grasp and hold on tight
Little eyes reflecting awe
Now give me second sight
To see the world anew
Little feet that tread the path of man
To stand upright
In glory move in earnest
And with trembling in your might
Each step he grew
The smallest voice expressing truth ineffable with coos
And tiny ears that filter out with innocence eschewed all evil
Forward life and pass the torch
The forebears gave to me
My son, my son
Carry this light
Eternal to offspring
Mental Progress
What does our gratitude create?
What does our optimism?
How does day dreaming bless our state?
How does humor and wisdom?
What does fond reminiscing build?
Or quiet contemplation?
What imagery conjured so real
Fashions tranquil elation?
We are free to create these
Through simple mental process
For we adorn palace of mind
By good thoughts as we progress
Borrowed Time
There’s room to sculpt reality
According to our choosing
Not in being delusional
But in power we’re using
Does not faith dwell in make-believe
Before creations action
An optimistic portal into bliss
Prior protraction
We live today inside the hope
Of positive tomorrow
But this reality itself
Reaches through time we borrow
Monster Maker
Our construct of reality
Is shaped by conscious thought
Though we may not be cognizant
Of the creations wrought
A piece of this, a bit of that
Like Frankenstein’s creation
We stitch together scraps of death
And grant their animation
Such monsters born of negligence
Can turn upon their maker
Take care in what your mind designs
For you shall be partaker
Spirit Creation
Wherein do our creations bud
But first within the mind
The blueprint of its structure
And the force spent over time
For only sentience can launch
Through purposeful causation
The substantive in motion
To achieve a new creation
For so it is with circumstance
The world which we transform
Begins in thought, then action wrought
Till physically born
Mindful
Where do ye think to find the self?
Is it not with the mind?
What circumscribes experience
And reflects the Divine?
Where do we find our awareness?
What is the pith of life?
How can we neglect consciousness
And steer our vessel lithe
We must engage the spirit’s sail
We must command the helm
We must ascend the ladder
To attain the higher realm
Quest for Fire
The usefulness of fire
Is found within control
For if it wanders wildly
Its can destroy the soul
So too our thoughts are powerful
But they must be reigned in
And focused on the virtuous
Above the roaring din
The man that would transform his life
Must first alter the mind
For even in bleak circumstance
One’s viewpoint can refine
With clarity, with gratitude
With intellect, and faith
The world follows our blueprint
In the thoughts that we create
Herein the quest for fire
Warms the cockle of the soul
And lights the way to happiness
If we but take control
Green Pastures
Some people do not know their mind
They do not own their thoughts
They do not grasp that mind control
Is theirs to seize or not
They channel surf the transom
Without direction or purpose
And never linger long enough
To dissect thoughts they service
You are not floating in a stream
The stream is inside you
Channel the flood of consciousness
To greener pastures true
This blog is dedicated to offering daily verse--a thought to contemplate throughout the day and enrich the inner life. Poetry reaches into the heart in ineffable ways. Similar to music which speaks below the horizon of conscious thought, poetry represents the first shards of dawning. The splintered light that cracks the heavens to illuminate reality. Rhythm, rhyme, and reason dancing. Words, whispers, and wonderment flashing. Images, impression, and intellect converging. Such is the language of enlightened prose, and the oracle through which it pollinates the mind.
