Not Enough
The slave relinquished all his will
To slick his master’s greed
Then waited for instructions
Till his master took the lead
Although he was obedient
He had little to offer
His life was in his master’s hands
How could his efforts proffer
Because the slave lacked purpose
Then he had no motivation
His mind would wander aimlessly
Without new innovation
Why problem solve?
He said resolved, “I’ll leave it to my master.”
Who had to oversee all work
And always hollered “Faster!”
The more the master seized control
The less he found he gained
With word or whip, insult or quip
His spirit stripped away
The sovereign self cannot be held
In walls, or chains, or bars
The treasure of its energies
Exist as light in stars
The wealth within all nature
Endures best when left untouched
Possess yourself and need recedes
To own what’s not enough
