Joseph’s Hymn
In my mind I heard thy tenor
Long before I knew thy name
I perceived thy presence splendor
In the glowing of life’s flame
Eye beheld thy image’s semblance
Cross the cast of every race
Thy reflection in descendants
Long before I saw thy face
To the flowering heart of nature
I’d retreat to find thee there
On the visage of creation
Shone thy signature and air
In my heart where none molested
Freedoms wide mused expanse
In the stillness of this constant
Solaced thy empathic glance
Thou wert with me in my weeping
Now in triumph thou art here
We thine offspring sense our breeding
As thy words fall on the ear
Ever with us thou Anointed
All is given to thy care
Still I marvel thine attention
Place upon man to be an heir
How thine eye perceived a goodness
Housed in flesh where death found lair
We thy kindred bound and fettered
Plead for mercy by our prayer
Where’s a voice by which to praise thee
Where are words that man can tell
Quenched from thirst thy love within me
Living waters from thy well
All to know thee and thy wonder
Life hath blossomed in death’s place
Every tear we shed in sorrow
Changed to joy now in thy grace
Thou art Alpha and Omega
True and faithful thou imbue
“It is done!” resounds as thunder
“ Behold, I make all things new.”
There the city New Jerusalem
As a diadem
Gates of pearl, and paved works of gold
Clad with gems descends to crown
Mother earth appears as crystalline
Where the Lamb in mercy seat
Shine for all as fire enshrouds
God her light shall there be found
In the round of life eternal
Mirror to mirror perceive we now
Holy ties of love paternal
Seal us one as knee we bow
God our Sire his all endows
