The Jones
Up and showered
Running late
Quick shave
Sports page
Dressin' on the way out the door
Behind the wheel
Newspaper in your hand
And a donut in the other
Typical case in the quick paced
Dog eat dog world
Driven by ambition
And the blood starts pumpin'
Soon the tempo builds
As the traffic starts jumpin'
Punch-in early on your time clock
“Yo!”
Kissin' up to the boss
One day you'll have your own parking spot
One day they'll give you a gold watch
And say bye-bye
Everybody wants to know
What's your status
How much ya makin'
If your a white collar worker
And your brinin' home the bacon
And if you should get your raise
Uncle Sam is sure to get a piece of the pie
“Why!?”
Caught in traffic
Changing lanes
Brake lights
All's quiet
Then somebody lays on the horn
Soon all join in
For the rush hour ritual
Coming home to cold victuals
Typical case in the quick paced
Dog eat dog world
Tuck the kids in bed
And watch the late late show
The wife has got a headache
Guess the honeymoon's over
When life slows down
You'll think of all the things
Your plastic credit cards can't buy you
Pay then, but for now
To live high on the hog
You'll put your life out on loan
With your ear to the ground
And your nose to the grindstone
Just keepin' up with the Jones
