Fragments
I could not parse infinity
Nor wholeness subdivide
I could not cleave the universe
Potential from its prime
I could not segment substance
To divorce it from the mind
Nor perceive its existence
Unless sentience entwined
I could not segregate the two
Nor function from design
I could not square nor isolate
All change from space and time
I could not separate nor find
A substance void of form
Both mass and empty space alike
Of three dimensions born
I saw space as a property
And time as relative
To change and its velocity
Yet not definitive
I saw no bounds or limits tied
To any one of these
Space was not a void, nor time employed
To gauge eternity
Creation and destruction still
Did not effect existence
The fundamental properties
Endured and were persistent
How odd that change is set inside
The medium of constants
And limits in the limitless
Such irony seems nonsense
How do we mete the infinite
With finite mind imbibe
Unless we’ve something equal
To the truth there circumscribed
