Master Peace
The prince had all that one could want
But wrestled melancholy
He asked, “What is true happiness?”
“Is all desire folly?”
This query opened up the doors
To his illumination
He focused on the question
And on joy’s full rumination
Is it more than pleasure?
What does it satiate?
Does it have a shelf life?
Or independent state?
Can social acceptance
Fill the void inside?
Or does love for others
Unconditional preside
Sparked this thought’s creation
Started spinning in his mind
Altruism has no negative
Nor woe entwined
Its blossom is perennial
And solely independent
It’s globally appealing
And virtue ever present
Herein he gleaned enlightenment
Beyond the palace wall
Outside confining ego
Apart from selfish thrall
He saw in all the cosmic Self
From which all things emerged
Identifying all as one
His mortal nature purged
Passion became compassion
Felicities enthrall
Dualism of desire melts away
In love of all
